Vacationing in the Outer Banks

Well, I've been in Southern Shores, NC, all week and having a lovely time. It's a funny place, if you look at a map: just a slip of island, barely wider than 1/4 mile in places. Tiny towns dotted along the water, and gorgeous homes on both sides of the highway that winds its way north and south. Kitty Hawk, site of the Wright Brothers' famous first flight attempts, is right down the road, and it's a neat place to visit. Unbelievable to think how far technology has come in less than a century!

Hubby and I rented a house for the week with 5 other couples, and it's been a great mid-summer break. The weather is great, the company fun, and every day relaxing. It's one of those vacations where your bathing suit stays damp all day long, you're not sure exactly what time (or day) it is, you eat and drink more than you probably should, and you can smell the ocean air and feel the salt on your skin and in your hair whenever you step outside. I've even finished 3 books on my Summer TBR list...and I'll share those next week when I'm back home!

Have you entered my contest to win a "Boston Bonus Basket" to celebrate the release of One Night in Boston? All you have to do is post a comment on this blog...and everytime you do, your name will be entered into a drawing to win this prize. I'll be taking names until Sunday the 29th, and announcing the winner on Monday the 30th, so stop by often and leave me a comment!

I'm jealous - I love the beach. I was hoping to go this August but it doesn't look like we will be able to now.

I'm glad you and your hubby got away and you got to relax.

I once went to the Outer Banks in December, of all times. It was cold, dreary, and windy -- and I still had a great time. I remember, though, that there was a huge feral cat population. Is that still the case?

Can't wait to hear what you've read.

I love those beach vacations. Give me a fruity drink, a beach towel, and ocean view and a book and I'm happy. I've never been to North Carolina. I'd love to go some day.
