OK, so here's my question: if you were going to attend a presentation at your local library given by 2-3 writers (and of course you would, right? because writers are very cool and you support struggling artists), which would you rather hear?
1. A discussion of what it takes to write something and get it published
2. A discussion of how the romance and women's fiction genres are changing and what kind of plotlines they include these days
3. A brief introduction of what each author writes, maybe a personal anecdote or two, and then an open Q&A session
4. Something else altogether
I have the opportunity to speak at a couple of places this summer and am wondering what might be the best draw?
And I know there are lots of you out there who lurk but don't comment, so if you have an opinion today, I'd love to hear it!

My first thoughts would be… How is this author presentation going to be advertised to the public? What does the “flyer” look like? Are aspiring writers coming to meet you and hear your personal stories or are people interested in purchasing books from local authors or maybe both?
I personally would enjoy a combination of #1 and #3. Maybe two brief discussions. A synopsis of what it takes to write something and get it published, followed by what each author has written and concluded with an open Q&A session.
And yes, I confess, I’m a lurker!

I'd go with # 3.
I would go for a combination of #1 and #3. Both concept should engage the audience.

Most folks there are probably readers, not writers, so I wouldn't go with #1. The rest? It's a toss up.

I had an opportunity to do something similar this spring. Me and two other authors did a presentation at a local library. We each spent a few moments talking about our books and reading excerpts, then opened it up for questions. Almost every person there had questions about the process of writing a novel and getting it published, so I do think that is something people are interested in. Hope that helps :-)

I would definitely go with #1 and maybe stick in how to stay motivated. Good luck. - john
I guess it depends on the audience. If you're targeting writers, then #1 or #2 would be a good draw, I think. But if you want readers as well, I'd go with #3.
I vote for # 3 - really think that will go over well.
